This very well-told story brought me back to my own childhood foibles. There’s one particular one where my father schooled me that I will never forget. Also, Shel, this sentence is a real gem: “I strive to be gentler than my mother.”
Shell, your growth since your one child was on the snowbound roof is refreshing for us all. You remind me of why I say it is best to be a grandparent rather than a parent. You modeled my rationale. A parent is usually in correction or judgement mode, whereas a grandparent is almost always in a loving mode. You wanted to be loving First, and help your granddaughter learn a lesson second. I love that. Your response to your own little one on the roof, yelling and hugging, is not what current Shell, as grandparent, would do. You have grown. Would that we all do the same.
I was hoping to read an inspiration this morning and voile! There you are telling of an event in that soft “knowing voice.” You’re a really wise and thoughtful storyteller …
Having the courage to say "no" is such a difficult thing, both as an adult and a child. But sometimes the younger we are the easier things appear to be.
That is why parents are tired, .. well, I 'll speaking for myself.
Aweee so wonderful! Thank you. Love the way you structured this read. Excited to read your book.
It is my honor to have you read my book. Thank you. 🥹

Aww Thank you. Would love to hear your story.
I’ve written. About it as part of another story. Happy to share link. I can DM it.
